Tiny Shoes, A Great Step

My best friend has become a grand mother.
She brought last fall the joyful information to me via telephone.
Sounded very busy taking care of the newborn and new mother, but her voice was very vivid and filled with happiness.
After wondering for a while, I chose a pair of shoes as a present.
I just can't wait to see the baby girl with the shoes make a small but a great step toward her future. It is about a year ahead though...
I don't really know what becoming a new grandmother would mean because I don't have grand children yet but I'm sure it is the most rewarding gift a son or daughter can give.

Play for Prosperity

Hubby went and worshipped at an Ebisu shrine near his office.

Every year from January 9 through 11, Ebisu shrines in Kansai region hold "Ebessan," an event playing for prosperous commerce for the year, collecting many businessmen and merchants.
This year we suffer from an unheard of economic downturn, and it is expected that much more people visit the shrines compared to the past.

Hubby bought a bamboo rake decorated with plenty of charms.

We put it up on the front door wall, hoping a prosperous year for our business.

Isn't it gorgeous?

The Year of the OX

It is already 4 days since the year of the rat handed the baton to the year of the ox. Time just flies.

Looking back to 2008, the sluggish domestic economy triggered by the US economic crisis was the most concerned issue. As is usually the case, economic stagnation creates a lot of jobless people. According to the newspaper, many laid-off workers even don't have place to sleep, having no choice but to run into a temporary tent village set up in Hibiya Park in Tokyo to spend the new year's days. The situation is becoming worse. There are so many other people who are seeking for a shelter. How do they survive in such a freezing cold?

I'm deeply grateful for the current peaceful situation I'm in. At the same time I do hope the year of the ox will bring hope and vitality to the people to go through the difficulties.
